Perishable Operational Details
We give special attention to perishable cargo, taking into account the specific characteristics of this type of cargo, which is essential to the preservation and appropriate handling of these goods.
Perishable cargo includes products such as seeds, fruits, vegetables, fresh flowers, meats, fish, shellfish and any other product that can be easily affected by inappropriate preservation conditions.
Shipments consisting of perishable substances or articles will only be accepted if the following requirements are met:
Wet cargo (shellfish, meats, etc.) must be properly packed to prevent leaks, spills or strong smells during transport.
Horticultural products (fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc.) must be packed inside containers strong enough to support a stack of at least 2.2 meters without collapsing at the bottom. The packaging should be resistant to the moisture that these products generate (See Note 1).
Note 1: Testing resistance of this type of packaging can be done with simulated weight at a temperature of 22°C to 24°C and a relative humidity of 75% to 80% for 24 hours with the boxes piled to a height of three meters, or a weight equivalent to that stack height.
Shipments of Perishables packed with solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) require a previous agreement between the shipper and the company. Dry ice is classified as a dangerous good and the type of aircraft limits the amount that can be placed onboard.
Specific indications will not be accepted for maintaining precise temperatures or temperature ranges (e.g., "keep at 5 degrees" or "keep between 10 and 13 degrees").
Note: Whenever you use dry ice as a refrigerant, it must be recorded. After the product name, the following legend should be incorporated: "Dry Ice 9 UN 1845," followed by the amount of dry ice contained in each container.
Perishable cargo must bear the following labels:
Blue label identifies the content as meat, fish, vegetables or fruits.
Package orientation labels (direction arrows).
Class 9 Hazard Label if using dry ice as refrigerant.
